Action Felix Welcomes the Proskines

Worlds away from the 900 head dairy farm and their Colonial house in Hilsdale, New York, the Proskines arrived this July to Action Felix and Caminul Felix Children Villages. Packing up their home and leaving behind their church, friends and family, they moved to Sanmartin.

A herdsman, John built one of the top dairy herds in New York State. Sherry wrote Scripture studies and enjoyed painting with acrylic, watercolors and oils. The Proskines were active in their church leading men's and women's ministries. Sherry said, "The most difficult to leave was the 13-to-20-year old male prison ministry." They have a son, 37, daughter, 29 and grandson, 6.

John is the Dairy Farm Consultant for Action Felix. John consults with the existing management on the farm's daily and future projects. Alongside her interest in working with the gypsy population and assisting the farm, Sherry has located tempera paints in Romania and has plans to continue her painting.

Sherry first came to Romania to speak at a marriage conference on the invitation of Liz Travis, a missionary friend in October 2003. Returning to the States, she remembered the unforgettable experience of visiting a gypsy village, and the gypsy children's bare feet or torn, muddy shoes. She could not allow the reality to remain unchanged. She and John organized Project Plenty by raising $1200 from local neighbors and church friends, and provided shoes for all 45 children in the village, one month food supply for all families, and children school lunches from February to June. Still, she felt there was more to be given to Romania and wanted John to visit.

The Lord provided the opportunity for both of them in October 2005 with an invitation from two churches to hold a conference on the names of God in Romania. With only a free afternoon, they drove to visit Action Felix's farm, which they had heard about from missionaries, Clark and Sue Phillips.

The Proskines toured the facilities and evaluated the farm's operations with Action Felix's president, Marcel Filip. As the dialogue continued about much-needed improvements, Filip said, "Could you come back for a month? We need you." To which John immediately replied, "I think I can come."

Following the conference, the Proskines returned to the States knowing God was calling them to Romania. During that time, John received an invitation to submit his resume to pastor their home church. However, recognizing their need to be in Romania and heeding the words of the Lord, "God doesn't bring you halfway not to complete it," they committed themselves to His call to be a part of Action Felix and Caminul Felix Children Villages.

Action Felix welcomes the Proskines and appreciates their dedication, sacrifice, skills and faith in the work and the children of Caminul Felix.
