Sun Flower Design and Gift Shop Opens Its Doors
The Sun Flower Design Studio and Gift Shop opened its doors in the Open Hand House in April 2006. The Studio received an extensive collection of colorful textiles and linens, embroideries, and woolens from friends in Sweden.
The handcrafted products are marketed locally in the well-appointed Gift Shop as well as internationally through the Caminul Felix Choir tours. Specialty products include: wool and denim handbags, specialty aprons and kitchen accessories, dolls and toys, and bathroom and household items. The studio is also available for custom, made-to-order products.
In 1996, a few of the young women at Caminul Felix began designing handcrafts in a small apartment in Baile Felix. After outgrowing this space, they moved to the Caminul Felix Village Two Administration Building. In recent years, the product demand dictated a specially designed space for sewing equipment, textile storage and retail space.
Sun Flower Design is truly a wonderful contribution to the education of young women at Caminul Felix. The purpose is to provide an environment where they can learn design, sewing and craftsmanship skills. Currently, there are five young women employed here. The Studio is looking to expand its mission and activities by partnering with area non-profit organizations.
